Description
This is a summary of the Heal the Land Cleanup held Friday, September, 27, 2013, in the area of West 39th Street and Graceland Avenue.
Before this cleanup, a local resident and I did some brush clearing in the alleys between Capitol Avenue and Graceland Avenue, from 38th Street to near 40th Street. This same resident helped clear brush in an alley during this cleanup. He would like to help us with niehgborhood cleanup again.
During this cleanup, we were blessed to work with about sixty 60 students from IUPUI. We really enjoy working with the students. There were about sity-five volunteers at tthe cleanup.
Dennis Papenmeier, Administrator for the Division of Neighborhood Services, City of Indianapolis, came to the cleanup and expressed his appreciation to the students for their help
with beautifying the city. Thanks Dennis!!!!.
Our thanks to Tammy Stevens of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful for arranging to have a thirty yard dumpster placed in the cleanup area. This dumpster is being used to store trash collected during the cleanup until the dumpster is removed from the area.
The following areas were cleaned:
Boulevard Place from 38th Street to 40th Street, sidewalks medians and street gutters;
Graceland Avenue from 38th Street to 40th Street, sidewalks medians and street gutters;
West 39th Street from Boulevard Place to Capitol Avenue, street gutters;
Alley between Graceland Avenue and Capitol Avenue, 38th Street to 39th Street and about halfway from 39th Street to 40th Street.
While I do not know who recently removed much debris from the alley just west of Illinois Street, from 39th Street to 40th Street, they have my THANKS!!!!!.
The dumpster provided through KIB was filled to about two thirds of its capacity, with trash collected during the cleanup. No tires were observed in or near the dumpster.
Water was made available to all volunteers, who worked for about an hour and a half to help clean this neighborhood, which seems to continue become cleaner.
All of the students left the area when the cleanup was finished.
When the area where we had worked was checked for stray tools, trash bags or piles of debris, no such items were found.
There were no known major incidents or accidents during the cleanup.
My THANKS!!!!!!!! to all who have supported this neighborhood through: prayer, street ministry, local congregations, cleanups, city services and home renovation.
